Palau’s Ambassador to Japan visits PICRC and Palau Aquarium
On Friday, August 9th, Palau’s new Ambassador to Japan, Ambassador Francis Matsutaro, met with Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) CEO, Dr. Yimnang Golbuu, and Dr. Seiiji Nakaya (SATREPS Project Coordinator) to learn about PICRC and the University of Ryukyus’ (UOR) joint project, entitled, “Project for the sustainable management of coral reef and island ecosystems: responding to the threat of climate change.†The project is funded through a highly competitive five year grant from the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS), which is supported by two Japanese government agencies, Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Ambassador Matsutaro was eager to learn about this collaborative project between Japanese and Palauan researchers. Ambassador Matsutaro also took a guided tour of Palau Aquarium, and he commented that he was impressed with the recent changes and additions to the exhibits.
Ambassador Matsutaro is a founding CEO of PICRC and has remained a good friend and strong supporter of PICRC. PICRC congratulates Ambassador Matsutaro on his appointment and looks forward to working with the Ambassador to further strengthen ties between PICRC and relevant organizations in Japan.
