SDA and PMA visit the PICRC to learn more about the work done at the Center and the resources available for school teachers

On August 25, 2019, a group of 28 teachers, staff and community members from the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Elementary School, and Palau Mission Academy (PMA), visited the Palau International Coral Reef Center.

Every August since 2015, a group of teachers from SDA and PMA have been visiting the PICRC. This year the group was greeted by Research Director, Geraldine Rengiil, and was then taken on to a tour of the Palau Aquarium, by Aquarist Mcgee Mereb, where they learned about Palau’s unique ecosystems.

At the same time the teachers, staff and community members were given a presentation by Communications and Outreach Officer, Maria Moreno, about the history, purpose and work being done at the PICRC. Moreover, Ms. Moreno invited the teaching staff to take advantage of the resources that the Center has readily available for them to use in the classroom and talked about the plans that the PICRC has to expand its school program curriculum.

“We are excited to talk to the teachers about the new school program curriculum that is currently being developed at the Center. I encourage other schools to come hear more about it, learn about the resources that we have available, and provide feedback that will help us create a more comprehensive program”, stated Ms. Moreno.
