Adopt a Tank

The Adopt-a-Tank Program was created for businesses, community groups, and individuals that want to support the Palau Aquarium by contributing to a specific exhibit or display.

The Palau Aquarium is the interpretive division of the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC). Its exhibits help educate the public about Palau’s marine environment, coral reef ecology, and conservation. The Palau Aquarium is a non-profit, and, as such has limited funds for renovating and updating exhibits. Your support will ensure the future of Palau Aquarium and help it become a thriving extension of PICRC.

We want to recognize your support. Your contribution will be acknowledged in an “Adopt-a-Tank Honored Donor” display in a high-traffic space near the entrance to the aquarium. Inner Reef Crest and Outer Reef Exhibit donors will also be honored with a plaque near their adopted exhibits. Information about exhibit maintenance and expansions made possible by your support will also be posted near the aquarium entrance. Our website, too, will promote your support.

Additionally, you will receive one complimentary use of our conference room, including free admission for your guests for that day. Your business or organization’s important guests can be treated to a complimentary aquarium tour (by appointment). You will also receive VIP invitations to special events.

Thank you for your interest in supporting Palau Aquarium. Mesulang!

tank_1 Mangrove Exhibit Adoption: $2,000/yr.

Mangroves offer significant and unique habitat for many marine species. Mangroves provide protected nursery areas for fishes, crustaceans and shellfish. They also create breeding habitat and establish restrictive areas for the protection of maturing offspring.

Your donation will be used for routine exhibit maintenance and the following:

Add mangrove fish species
Continuously update educational information
Replace damaged signs
Beautify the surrounding landscapes
Palau Aquarium will provide a free admission day for a school of your choice.

tank_2 Seagrass Exhibit Adoption: $3,000/yr.

Seagrass habitats attract various species of fish, conch, turtles and dugongs for feeding and breeding. Numerous species of reef fish use seagrass as a protective nursery, hiding amid the grass from predators. Moreover, adult fish that hide in the coral reef during the day and venture out at night to feed, take advantage of the rich source of food that exists in the seagrass.

Your donation will be used for routine exhibit maintenance and the following:Add a walking path around the exhibit
Repair the bai roof
Add benches for easier viewing
Remove distracting vegetation
Continuously update educational information
Replace damaged signs
Palau Aquarium will provide a free admission day for a school of your choice.
tank_3 Inner Reef Exhibit Adoption: $4,000/yr.Due to a high exposure to sunlight the upper section is very productive and home to a diversity of reef life, such as hard and soft corals, sponges, lobster, clam, fish and sea turtles. In some cases the reef is teeming with diversity of species such as sea cucumbers and conch.
Your donation will be used for routine exhibit maintenance and the following:Add more inner reef fish and turtles
Continuously update educational information (including fish identification)
Replace damaged signs
Beautify the surrounding landscapes
Add a viewing platform from above

tank_4 Reef Crest Exhibit Adoption: $5,000/yr.

Reef crest zone is characterized by a lien of waves that break along its edge, with low tides further exposing sections of the reef. Where the waves break, the highest energies exist. Here only the strongest coral can persist. A common form here is the fire coral, which forms as interlocking honeycomb.

Your donation will be recognized by the Reef Crest Viewing Window, and it will be used for routine exhibit maintenance and the following:Add more reef crest fish
Continuously update educational information (including fish identification)
Replace damaged signs
Paint a mural above the Jellyfish Tank
Palau Aquarium will provide a free admission day for a school of your choice.
tank_5 Outer Reef Exhibit Adoption: $6,000/yr.

Outer reefs are dominated by many types of massive corals. These are ornamented with branching Elkhorn whose branches become shorter and thicker to withstand the greater forces exerted by incoming waves. Flexible sea whips and fans grow in association with these corals.

Your donation will be recognized by the Outer Reef Tank and used for routine exhibit maintenance and the following:

Add more outer reef fish species
Continuously update educational information (including fish identification)
Replace damaged signs
Paint a mural in the interior exhibit entryway
