PICRC Research

The PICRC research Department was established to increase and disseminate scientific information to local and international entities about the status of coral reefs and associated marine ecosystems. The department undertakes practical research directed towards the sustainable management and conservation of local and regional marine resources.

Application procedure for research:
All persons interested in conducting research through PICRC are requested to submit a research proposal, providing information on organizational affiliation and proposed research activities. For more information about this process, email picrc@picrc.org.

Please note, as part of the Center’s goal to be a repository for all information on Palau’s marine environment, researchers will be asked to submit a preliminary report within six months and send reprints of any published work.

Permits:
All persons intending to conduct any type of research activity or collection in Palau are required to have a National Research Permit from the Government of Palau.

Applications must be obtained and submitted to the Ministry of Resources and Development 60 days prior to the start of the research. Any further questions or requests for applications should be addressed to:

Also, each state in the Republic of Palau has its own regulations, and a permit must be obtained from each state in which research is conducted. State permits can be obtained upon arrival in Palau.

Please note–all non-citizens exiting Palau must pay a $50 cash green fee at the airport.
