Masasinge Tellei Hideos joins PICRC’s communications & outreach team

The Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) has recently hired Masasinge “Singe” Tellei Hideos as its newest Communications and Outreach Officer.  Singe started his first day at PICRC on February 22, 2021.

Singe will focus on bringing the work of PICRC to the people of Palau so that it can be utilized for conservation and adaptive management. His duties include working closely with researchers to translate research results and communicate them in an appropriate format for the different relevant stakeholders, including the students of Palau. He will take part in creating innovative and interesting educational displays for students and community members at the Palau Aquarium. Likewise, he will oversee the external and internal communication including website design, press releases, social media, and maintenance of the Center’s library.

Singe has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography-Environmental Studies at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and an Associate of Science Degree in Environmental Marine Science at Palau Community College (PCC).

While attending University of Hawaii at Hilo, Singe was a Social Media Coordinator of International Student Association, in charge of promoting and posting activities and announcements on social media, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and organizing events for the International Students in campus. In summer 2019, he was an intern at PICRC, conducting a research project focused on local ocean acidification in Palau’s water. As a student at PCC, he also interned at PICRC on a research project to fulfill his credit requirement for SC270 Internship course. His research project examined heat tolerance for branching corals Porites cylindrica in Palau.

With his education, experience and friendly personality, Singe is a great addition to the Communications and Outreach Team at PICRC.  He will contribute to PICRC’s mission of guiding efforts to support conservation and management of our important ocean resources.
