Spring Semester Internship Program Announcement
The Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) is looking for highly motivated High School and College students currently living in Palau, interested in completing an On the Job Training Internship Program.

Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Starting Date: January 25, 2021

Purpose of internship:

General Qualifications to apply:
- Must be currently living in Palau
- High School or College Student with an interest in conservation
- Highly motivated
- Adaptable
- Willingness to learn and listen
- Commitment to be at the Center every M-W-F from 2pm-4pm
Internship Set-Up
Mondays: Students will be placed with the department of their choice, and will shadow the work done by their mentor, helping with daily tasks and projects
Wednesdays: Research and Outreach will provide students with presentations, lectures, and activities regarding conservation work at the Center. Students will gauge a wider understanding for marine education.
Fridays: With the help from the Outreach team, students will coordinate a program for local families. Interns will plan activities and will interact with families, bringing about awareness on Palau’s oceans by using the aquarium as a tool for education.
Internship Positions
Administration
The Administration department is looking for a motivated individual interested in accounting, finance, sales, and marketing
Intern Responsibilities:
- Aiding the finance department with the filing of paperwork
- Assisting the gift shop with sales management
- Aiding the administration department with marketing strategies
- **NOTE: Organizational and communication skills are required for this position. Knowledge on marketing or administration is a plus.
Aquarium
The Palau Aquarium team is looking for a motivated individual interested in helping aquarists with their daily tasks
Intern Responsibilities:
- Help with daily activities such as preparing food, feeding the animals, cleaning the tanks etc
- Monitoring the water quality of the tanks
- Aiding with any maintenance need that might arise, such as painting or fixing systems
- **NOTE: This position involves a high degree of physical activity and strain. Most work is done outdoors
Maintenance
The maintenance team is looking for a motivated individual interested in helping with the work required to maintain the Center’s facilities
Intern Responsibilities:
- Help with day-to-day maintenance activities, including cutting grass, painting walls, and cleaning
- Aiding the maintenance team with any project they may be working on, such as building, cutting, mounting, etc.
- **NOTE: This position involves a high degree of physical activity and strain. Most work is done outdoors
Outreach
The outreach team is looking for a motivated individual interested in helping develop educational materials to be made available for schools. Intern will coordinate the making of scientific research papers for students 5-12th, based on the research papers written by PICRC’s researchers.
Intern Responsibilities:
- Determine which technical reports will be re-written, making them more accessible for younger audiences
- Write scientific reports suitable for 5th-12th grade science students
- Consult with researchers regarding questions, clarifications, and revising of written texts
- Develop questions, worksheets, and/or activities that revolve around each scientific paper for teachers/students to use in the classroom
- **NOTE: Interested applicants must have an interest for reading and writing science. This position requires strong reading and writing science skills and/or willingness to develop such skills.
