Vacancy – Aquarium Researcher

Salary: $20,050-$37,051 per annum depending on experience and   qualifications plus generous fringe benefits

Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) is seeking applicants for the  position of an Aquarium Researcher.

Minimum Requirements:  
At least a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science or related fields involving field  and/or laboratory research from an accredited college or university. Minimum  experience of three years in marine research and/or related field and some  experience in resource management and conservation. Knowledgeable in coral and  clam culture and laboratory management.  

Position Purpose:  
This position is designed as a researcher level position for the Aquarium.  Incumbent shall conduct research on coral restoration, assist with the giant clam  culture program and assists aquarists in performing such duties to include the  development of exhibits, tank maintenance, fish feeding, and aquarium tours.  Incumbent will also assist in the OA laboratory work including collection of  samples, analysis and reporting, laboratory maintenance and limited OA field  work.  

Duties and Responsibilities  
∙ Coral restoration research including but not limited to coral propagation, site  assessment and coral culture and using Best Practices to improve methods.  

∙ Conduct research for the giant clam project including but not limited to clam  culture, clam transplant, setting up clam ocean nurseries and other related  duties regarding clam culture development. 

∙ Assist in OA laboratory including data sample collection, preparation,  analysis and maintenance.  

∙ Participate in the aquarium fieldwork on collection, transportation, and  handling of aquarium species. Determining what species to exhibit, assist in  identification of exhibition animals. Prepare a list of organisms for collection  and taking the lead in developing and implementing the Standard Operating  Procedures.  

∙ Taking part in the aquarium aquarist work shift including opening and  closing duty, feeding, tank cleaning, and other general aquarium  maintenance work. Assist in the care and maintenance of the aquarium  animals.  

∙ Conduct aquarium tours with schools, the community and other groups as  necessary.
