Marine Biologist Greta Sartori Joins PICRC from Italy as New Researcher

The Palau International Coral Reef Center is happy to welcome Greta Sartori as our newest Researcher!

As a Researcher, Greta leads the study of reef recovery at Lighthouse and Ngederrak Reefs and the Center’s monitoring surveys of marine protected areas. She also supports the Center’s offshore environmental DNA monitoring project with Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions and the new coastal ecosystem management program with the Japan International Cooperation Agency. 

Before moving to Palau, Greta worked throughout the Indo-Pacific researching fish movements in Indonesia and monitoring coral reefs in Australia. She also worked as a professional Divemaster in Indonesia, Australia and her home country of Italy. 

She received a Master’s degree in Tropical Marine Biology at the University of Essex and a Bachelor’s in Natural Science at the University of Bologna. 

“I have been dreaming about becoming a marine biologist since the first time I saw a coral reef in Egypt at 8 years old. I have always had a burning passion for anything ocean-related, and now, 20 years later I have become a versatile scientist with a keen interest in field experiments and ecological modeling. Thanks to my job at PICRC, I am widening my scientific knowledge by learning new skills from a scientific community born and raised on a coral reef and from our international collaborators” said Greta. 

We are excited for Greta to join our Research team and we look forward to working with her to uncover new insights into Palau’s coral reefs.
