PICRC unveils new name of research building

The research building at the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) has been officially named “Dr. Yimnang Golbuu” after the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who concluded his time at PICRC in April 2023. Dr. Golbuu joined PICRC in 2002 and became the CEO in 2012. He is largely attributed with bringing the Center through its most difficult financial period, expanding the Center, and raising its profile both in Palau and internationally.

The building is one of PICRC’s busiest as it is home to all the research facilities, such as the wet lab, dry lab, and ocean acidification lab, the researchers’ offices, the student lab, and accommodation facilities.

“The naming of the building as Dr. Yimnang Golbuu highlights how appreciative we are of the work our former CEO put in over the last two decades,” stated interim CEO, Ms. Caryn Lkong Koshiba. “His tireless efforts and commitment contributed greatly to the Center’s incredible improvement. We currently have a strong research team who will continue the great work that Dr. Golbuu made possible.”
