Angaur Elementary School participation winners of the 2024 Arts & Tides Calendar contest

Angaur Elementary School took first place for participation rates of the 2024 Arts & Tides Calendar contest, with a rate of 100%! Staff from the Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) traveled to Angaur on Friday, August 04 to congratulate the students. The school received $300 of prizes of their choice, which were mainly items for their onsite vegetable garden, such as seeds, seedlings, and gardening equipment.

While at the school, PICRC’s outreach staff also delivered approximately an hour of interactive, educational activities to engage the students with science and the ocean. There were stations on the importance of mangroves, the threats facing coral reefs, and the ecosystems and animals of the deep ocean.

“It was great to have the opportunity to visit Angaur Elementary School. We’re very proud of the students’ efforts in the Arts & Tides Calendar contest,” stated PICRC’s Interim CEO, Caryn Lkong Koshiba. “We’ll continue to work with the teachers to bring our outreach activities to the schools in the outlying states that can’t as easily visit us in Koror.”
