Vacancy – Researcher

Position: Researcher 
Salary: $33,319 to $52,637 per annum plus fringe benefits

Palau International Coral Reef Center is seeking applicants for the position of a Researcher to lead the Climate Change Grant funded Palau-Pacific Islands Regional Climate Assessment  (PIRCA) Phase 2 Project at the Research Department. 

The Researcher’s major responsibilities are to develop and implement the Project Work Plan; manage project procurement; research, analyze and develop climate change information  documentation; and implement project deliverables through coordination with partners.  Presentations, engagement with partners and production of climate related information are  critical elements of the position. 

Specific duties includes: 

• Prepare presentations and briefing materials for state-level decision makers in Palau, translating  technical information into formats understandable by non-technical audiences. 

• Lead the development of the Second PIRCA report and decision-support information products  designed for the state level. These tools will enable state-level stakeholders to incorporate climate  change processes and hazards into planning processes. 

• Coordinate and host engagements (workshops and small group meetings) to deliver valuable,  evidence-based information about climate change adaptation interventions and provide updates  on the latest scientific consensus from relevant regional and international assessments. 

• Engage with the National Office of Climate Change, National Emergency Management Office, and other national officials to align activities with the national climate change planning process. • Participate in monitoring data collection and reporting for the project deliverables to the steering  committee, and other climate related initiatives. 

• Collaborate with other members of the Pacific Research on Island Solutions for Adaptation (RISA) team to accomplish these duties and link with the team’s ongoing projects in Palau. 

This position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in Climatology, Ecology, Geography,  Biology, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or Physics from an accredited university with 6-8 years work-related experience in project management, or climate change adaptation OR a  Bachelors degree in said fields with a minimum of 8 years prior experience in climate change  project management. Applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication skills in  the English and Palauan languages, possess the ability to multitask, strong networking skills,  good time management skills and able to work with minimal supervision. 

Fringe benefits includes Palau social security, healthcare fund/MSA, pension plan, and  annual/sick leave. Additional medical insurance and 401k are optional.
