Vacancy – Coral Futures Team Leader

Salary Range: $16,370 to $27,507

Palau International Coral Reef Center is seeking applicants for the position of a Coral Futures  Team Leader who will provide implementation, research, and monitoring for heat-tolerant coral  restoration efforts at PICRC in Koror, Palau. The leader will lead a team and participate in  planning, execution and documentation of coral heat stress tests, delivery of heat tested corals for  outplanting, and to conduct and report coral outplant monitoring. They will also contribute to the  Coral Futures Academy mission to train Team members on coral heat tests, refine local  restoration techniques, and understand the role of heat tolerance in restoration outcomes. They  will be responsible for deliverables, which include data collection, processing and analysis, and  reporting. Qualified candidates will either possess an associate or bachelor’s degree or have experience with field work, and computer skills (Microsoft Office) are considered a plus. This is a full-time position for three years under a funded CORDAP grant. Priority will be given to a  Palauan.  

Specific duties include: 

• Coordinates and implements the Coral Futures Team in coordination with key partners  (TNC, Stanford). This includes training team in protocols, completing evaluation  metrics, collecting and compiling project data, and contributing to CFA training  improvements based on lessons learned. 

• Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the team including overseeing research and  restoration activities, regular program administration and record keeping, ensuring teams  are meeting project requirements, tracking project metrics, and reporting to partners  (TNC, Stanford) on a weekly basis. 

• Participates in the Coral Futures Academy workshops to be held once a year and monthly  progress meetings among all partners (TNC, Stanford, MICS, CSP, PICRC) to support  continued development and modification of the Coral Futures Academy.  

• Use online tools to work with Stanford partner to compile and analyze data, and regularly  shares/uploads data with Stanford. 

• Promotes the CFA project locally and/or abroad by community engagement, social media  posts, and other relevant meetings. 

• Travel locally and nationally to attend CFA meetings and workshops.

• Work with local teams online and through WhatsApp or other communication tools to  discuss issues, solve problems, create new approaches, and adaptively manage each  project for success. 

• Build Coral Futures Teams with local college students, volunteers, or other organizations.  Engage current or new participants, train members on project protocols, manage  schedules, communicate responsibilities, and ensure project deliverables are being met. • Maintain and manage budget, spending tracking, and allocation. 

• Snorkels and/or dives as required to sample and monitor project activities. • Performs essential duties during any emergencies such as typhoons, public health  emergencies, and/or any other local emergency. Be available to report as needed. Minimum Qualifications 

Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field and/or two (2) years of experience.

Desired Qualifications 

• Educational background in marine science and/or conservation. 

• Experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and web browsers. • Experience with data collection and management. 

• Knowledge of local reef ecology and cultural practices as they relate to resource  management.  

• Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical work in remote areas in adverse conditions or  during inclement weather
