PNMS 10th Anniversary Student Essay Contest
Following the PNMS Anniversary theme : A Decade of Youth Voices, Community Strength, and Ocean Stewardship, the essays should highlight the significance of the PNMS, the importance of community connections, and reflect on the sense of ownership to the ocean. Submissions must address the following:
- ・The importance of protecting Palau’s offshore waters for future generations
- ・How science and traditional knowledge work hand in hand to protect our oceans and ensure sustainable use
- ・How the community and/or youth can contribute to sustaining the goals of the PNMS
Open to students enrolled in Palau schools in the following categories:
6th – 8th grade: 500–600 words
9th – 12th grade: 700-800 words
- ・Entries must be original work by the student
- ・Essay submission in English or Palauan
- ・Submit the essays by Thursday, October 23, 5pm to PICRC Giant Clam Gift Shop or through email

The winner of each category with receive a $300 cash prize. Winners will be contacted and invited to the PNMS 10th Anniversary Dinner Event on Tuesday, October 28.
