The Palau International Coral Reef Center (PICRC) is seeking a qualified candidates to fill the  role of Researcher, responsible for managing, designing, implementing, and monitoring coral breeding and nursery operations to strengthen Palau’s reef resilience. 

The Researcher will coordinate with PICRC’s aquarium research team and international partners  to advance coral reproductive biology, nursery-based restoration, and collaborative research.  This position combines hands-on coral husbandry, coral spawning, genetic management, and staff coordination to deliver impact outcomes for Palau’s communities and ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities 

• Manage and maintain coral breeding, nursery, and aquaculture systems.

• Support coral spawning, gamete handling, larval rearing, settlement, and early-life stage care. 

• Conduct trait assessments, experimental trials, and data recording to inform restoration outcomes. 

• Operate and troubleshoot life-support systems ensuring optimal ecological conditions.

• Implement biosecurity protocols and maintain clean, functional systems.

• Collaborate with researchers, technicians, and partners to strengthen knowledge exchange and capacity building. 

• Contribute to program milestones that enhance Palau’s reef resilience and community benefits. 

Minimum Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s degree in marine science or related field (postgraduate qualification preferred). 

• Strong background in coral reproductive biology, genetics, or husbandry.

• Demonstrated experience with coral spawning and early-life stage work.

• Certified diver with extensive fieldwork experience. 

• Strong communication skills and ability to lead a team. 

• Willingness to work flexible hours during spawning periods.
